The latest to take the court with yours truly is Iowa's
Steve Alford. Steve is a very private guy who doesn't seek
attention. In fact, coach Alford is the opposite of a
self-promoter. He's a hell of a coach and a selfless human
being.
DAVE
MAGARITY: I was fortunate enough to have had the
opportunity to coach my son. You have had the unique
opportunity to work with you father. My first question is what
has been the best part of working with your father?
STEVE ALFORD: Being able to share the same passion as
your father is a true blessing. Having dad involved in my
every day life has been extremely rewarding. It is a lot of
fun at the age of 40 to still work hard daily to emulate your
father.
MAGARITY: And would you like to one day coach Kory and
Bryce?
ALFORD: If the opportunity presents itself, of course.
If not, I just want my children to know their father very well
and know I'm always here for them.
MAGARITY: The transfer from Iowa State, Adam Haluska
has really been a nice addition to your team. From what I have
seen, he's a real nice player. Talk about what he has brought
to your team.
ALFORD: Adam is a big, athletic guard that can shoot
the deep 3 that stretches defenses and he is a very physical
defender. He is a great person and student and always
represents our program well.
MAGARITY: From what I have seen thus far, Kelvin's
Oklahoma team and your Iowa team look like two squads that
will only get better as the season moves forward. Are you
pleased with the progress your team has made thus far in
non-league play?
ALFORD: I truly believe this team can get better. We
are off to a great start but we have a number of weaknesses
that can be worked on for our team to improve.
MAGARITY: With Adam, Jeff Horner and Pierre Pierce you
have to not only feel good about this season, but the future
as well?
ALFORD: We are currently playing a nine man rotation of
which all are underclassmen so we are very excited about the
future of Iowa Basketball.
